Shawn Endres Obituary

Shawn Dean Endres, age 66, of Elkville, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Friday, February 20, 1959 in Du Quoin, Illinois, a son of Alvin Dean and Lois Joan (Rains) Endres.

Shawn was a vibrant and charismatic individual. His infectious enthusiasm, quick wit, and irrepressible humor inspired countless lives, earning him a reputation as a self-proclaimed stand-up comedian. With his boundless energy and outgoing personality, Shawn lit up every room he entered. His laughter was contagious, and his jokes and one-liners left everyone in stitches. Though he may not have taken the stage as a professional comedian, Shawn's humor and charm made him a beloved fixture in the lives of those around him. Shawn's adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors led him to pursue his passions for camping, motorcycle riding, and traveling. He reveled in the freedom of the open road and the thrill of exploring new horizons. He was a Nascar and football fan, especially of Du Quoin football and Notre Dame football. As a skilled tradesman, Shawn followed in his father's footsteps, working as a bricklayer for Endres' Masonry. Later, he transitioned to a role in maintenance for the State of Illinois, applying his expertise and strong work ethic to serve his community. Shawn was a force to be reckoned with - hardheaded and determined, he lived life on his own terms. While this trait may have led to some lively debates and humorous moments, it also earned him the respect and admiration of those around him. Shawn's passing leaves a profound void in the lives of his loved ones, but his legacy of laughter, adventure, and unwavering individuality will continue to inspire us. His booming laughter, his irrepressible grin, and his unbridled enthusiasm for life will be missed.

He is survived by his son- Cole Endres of Champaign; Nick (Angela) Endres of Du Quoin; mother- Joan Endres of Carbondale; grandchildren- Caiden Cook and Jayden Endres; sister- Deborah (Cade Bursell) Endres of Murphysboro; Jami (Bruce) Cope of Pinckneyville; nephew- Gabriel (Kelsie) Cope; great niece- Georgia Cope, numerous cousins; and a host of many friends.

He is preceded in death by his father.
