Ruby Louise Stevens

Ruby Louise Stevens, age 77, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:19 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

Ruby was born in Salem on September 13, 1946, the daughter of Dora (Drummond) Rickman and Grant Wishon. She married David Shuler, Sr. and he preceded her in death in 1976. She later married George Stevens in Carlinville in 1980. He preceded her in death in 2016.

Mrs. Stevens had a fulfilling career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and a home healthcare aide. Her dedication to caring for others was unmatched. Ruby's compassionate nature shone through in every interaction she had with her patients. Her kindness and selflessness touched the lives of many. 

Ruby is survived by her son- David Shuler, Jr. of Du Quoin; daughter- Lora (Robert) Wrolen of Du Quoin; daughter- Shanna Stevens of Centralia; and son Jason Stevens of Akin, South Carolina; seven grandchildren- Tiffany (Travis) Elling, Joshua Pitts, Heather Wrolen, Camilia (Matt) Holsapple, David Shuler, Jonathan Shuler, and Maya Branch; fourteen great-grandchildren; four sisters- Frances Thomas of Indiana, Rosemary Winkler of Champaign, Dorothy Croft of Divernon, and Evelyn (A.J.) Smith of Florida; two brothers- Jimmy Rickman of California and Doug Rickman of Flora; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband- David Shuler, Sr., her second husband- George Stevens, her sister- Sharon Rickman, and two brothers- Jerry Wishon and Allen Rickman.
