Roger Flener Obituary

Roger Dale Flener, age 79, of Pinckneyville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at his home in Pinckneyville.

He was born Saturday, November 24, 1945 in Louisville, Kentucky, a son of Lorene M. (Kelly) and Letcher A. Flener, Sr. He married the love of his life, W. Earline Taylor at the First Pentecostal Church in Cutler on April 12, 1983. Together, they shared more than 42 years of marriage and precious memories.

Roger, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was a man of many passions and interests, and his family was at the center of his life. Roger had a special bond with his son, often spending hours fishing together. He was a fan of White Castle and Big Red, and his sense of humor was legendary, with a quick wit and a love for telling jokes. His children and granddaughters adored him, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Music was a big part of Roger's life, he loved listening to Elvis, and dancing with his granddaughters made those Elvis songs even better. He also enjoyed watching old TV shows, particularly The Andy Griffith Show and Beverly Hillbillies, which always brought a smile to his face. Roger was a treasure hunter at heart, and his daughter loved accompanying him to yard sales in search of hidden gems. He was also an avid mushroom hunter. One of Roger's favorite pastimes was plotting for world peace with his brother-in-law, Jim, every weekend. While their plans may not have changed the world, Roger brought laughter and joy to his loved ones lives. He loved a good bar-b-que and fish fry. At work, he was a dedicated employee at the Wal-Mart Tire and Lube Center, where he took pride in serving his customers and ensuring their vehicles were running smoothly. He was always happy to lend a helping hand, whether it was supervising car repairs or tackling any job that needed to be done. The family will deeply miss Roger's love, laughter, and guidance.

He is survived by his wife- Earline Flener of Pinckneyville; daughter- Valerie Kristine Flener of Pinckneyville; son- Earl (Ashley) Flener of Pinckneyville; two grandchildren- Gretchen LeaAnne Flener and Gracetyn RoxAnne Flener; two sisters- Diane Flener and Dawn (Brian) Adair of Louisville, Kentucky; mother-in-law- Pat Taylor of Pinckneyville; sisters-in-law- Angie Flener of Louisville, Kentucky, Melody Taylor of Missouri, Trish (Jim) Povidinski of West Frankfort, Barbie (Dan) Curry of Cutler, and Charlotte Taylor of Willisville; and several nieces and nephews.
