Robert Louis "Bobby" Ryan Jr., age 79, of Dowell, passed away peacefully at 12:20am on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at his home in Dowell.
He was born Wednesday, August 29, 1945 in Granite City, Illinois, a son of Robert Louis and Vivian Lavern (Watts) Ryan. He married the love of his life, Connie Jean (Thompson) in Reno, Nevada on March 28, 1970. Together, they have shared more than fifty-five years of marriage and precious memories.
Prior to his retirement, Bobby had worked as a foundry worker in cast aluminum at Martin Marietta in Goldendale, Washington. He later worked in the shipping department at Turco in Du Quoin for more than fifteen years.
Bobby, a loving husband, devoted family man, and adventurous spirit, left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. His passions for fishing, camping, and exploring the great outdoors were only rivaled by his love for his family and friends. Bobby and his beloved wife, Connie, shared countless adventures together, traveling to different states and creating lifelong memories. Though he had dreams of traveling more, his travels with Connie brought him immense joy. Even when indoors, Bobby found solace in the air conditioning, often admiring the beauty of the outdoors from the comfort of his own home. Bobby's sense of humor was contagious, and those who knew him understood that beneath his gruff exterior lay a heart of gold. He was a unique soul, referred to affectionately as "just Bobby." His love for children was evident in his role as a boyscout troop leader for Elkville, where he guided young minds and hearts, including taking them on an unforgettable trip to see the space shuttle at Scott Air Force Base. Bobby's interests also included car auctions, where he could often be found with a smile on his face. His family and friends will cherish the memories of his laughter, his love, and his unwavering dedication to those he cared about. Bobby may be gone, but his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Connie, and all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife- Connie Jean (Thompson) Ryan of Dowell; daughter- Candy May Ryan of Sesser; sister-in-law- Jackie Ryan of Du Quoin; sister-in-law- Judy Curry of Anderson, California; niece- Sherry Anderson of Anderson, California; nephew- Donnie Ryan of Du Quoin; three great nieces; several cousins, and good friend- Allen "Bugsy" James.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son- Christopher David Ryan, and brother- David William Ryan.
