Robert Dugger Obituary
Robert Alan Dugger, age 76, of Carbondale, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
He was born Sunday, October 23, 1949 in Taylorville, Illinois, a son of Thomas C. and Marian Frances (Brents) Dugger. He married the love of his life, Darla Faye Wise in Cook County, Illinois on December 05, 1987.
Robert loved life, and he loved people. He was the kind of man who took time to help strangers on the street, never judged anyone, and always tried to do right - even when others did not always do right back. You could not ask for a sweeter, stronger man. He fought all his life, and he fought with grace.
He had the best of instincts that got him far. Robert worked in retail lumber and held many management positions over the years. He also ran his own painting business. Whatever the job, he showed up with his work ethic and his beautiful sense of humor.
Robert loved to write. He self-published two books on Amazon: Breaking Christopher, about his father, and Between Colors, a small book of short stories. For his wife, he wrote a book of poems - because words were how he gave his heart away. As Darla liked to tell him, "You're a trip and the only one worth taking."
He saw the good in people, believed in second chances, and left the world better than he found it. His kindness, strength, and wit will be remembered by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife- Darla F. Dugger of Carbondale; their children- Topper, Tillie, and Little Angel; and his son- Bob Dugger, Jr. and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers- Billy and Tommy Dugger, and his grandparents- Herman and Rose Brents, who he adored, and his beloved dogs- Rags and Jack.
Graveside services to honor Robert's life, will be held at 10:00am on Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Elkville Cemetery with Rev. Keith Owens officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery.
