Nanette Colleen Newell, age 67, of Pinckneyville, passed away peacefully at 1:09 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
Nanette was born in Berwyn, Illinois on March 24, 1957, the daughter of Howard and Mildred (Sheridan) Watts. She grew up in Ina and Downers Grove, Illinois, was a graduate of Downers Grove South High School.
She went to cosmetology school but found a true passion working for Fannie Mae Candies with her mother, as co-manager. That love took her from Downers Grove to Franklin, Tennessee with her family. After several years of working in Nashville at the Galleria Mall, she was asked to move to Southern Illinois to continue to work for Fannie Mae. After moving to Southern Illinois, she found a home in Sesser and raised her children there.
She finally became a homemaker, as her children were her number one priority, and wanted to spend as much time with them as she could. Once becoming a loving grandma she became the family babysitter, and she always said that it was the best gift she could ever have. Her life was centered on her family, whom she adored. She was a wonderful mother and grandma who was always there when needed, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. A friend to many, she leaves a true legacy of kindness and strength. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She loved to read, and watch true crime documentaries and reality TV shows. Nanette had an amazing sense of humor, always trying to make her children and grandchildren laugh. She loved to sit outdoors and birdwatch, her favorite being the cardinal because she always said that a cardinal was a loved one coming to visit and to always remember that.
