Monika Smith, 51, of Opdyke, passed away on December 9, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, IL. Born on June 9, 1974, in Sogul, Germany, to David and Martha (Hirsch) Diedrich, Monika grew up in the Evansville, Indiana.
She married Timothy "Tim" Smith on September 9th, 1995, in Evansville, Indiana, and they made their home in Opdyke. Monika was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her passions included crafts, camping, and spending time with her grandchildren. As a Paraprofessional, Monika found joy in educating and guiding children, and her work was a true reflection of her caring heart. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband Tim, she is survived by her four children, Dava Smith of Evansville, IN, Collin (Faith) Smith of Newton, IL, Trent Smith of Opdyke, IL, and Diedrich Smith of Opdyke, IL; two grandchildren, Esther Smith of Newton, IL and Hosea Smith of Newton, IL; her mother, Martha Diedrich of Evansville, IN; and three siblings, Patti (Brad) Sights of Evansville, IN, Erik (Zoe) Diedrich of Carbondale, IL, and Jonathan Diedrich and his fiance', Natalie of Carterville, IL.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Greenview Christian Church, located at 12 Greenview Church Road in Centralia. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. with funeral services directly following. All are welcome to attend. Memorial contributions can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
