Mark Douglas Hanks, age 85, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:51pm on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Sunday, March 10, 1940 in Vandalia, Illinois, a son of Merle and Mary (Hanna) Hanks. He married the love of his life, Linda Lee (Murray) Hanks on June 30, 1962 in Patoka. Together, they have shared more than sixty-four years of marriage and precious memories.
Mark was a skilled well driller and talented sewing machine mechanic. He enjoyed watching football on TV and was known for his love of tinkering with machines and fixing things around the house.
He is survived by his wife- Linda Lee (Murray) Hanks of Du Quoin; four children- Jeri Lynn (Keith) Peradotto of Pinckneyville, Michelle (Jon) Glimpse of Kansas City, Kansas, Wade (Kathy) Hanks of Du Quoin, Clayton (Kim) Hanks of Pittsburg; eight grandchildren- Brad Peradotto, Renee Lacy, Dalton Peradotto, Hanna Glimpse, Carter Glimpse, Morgan Hanks, Emma Hanks, and Thomas Hanks; two great grandchildren- Sadie Jo and Cole Lacy; three sisters- Carlin Thomas, Marilyn Blankenship, and Joanne Logue; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother- David Hanks, sister- Roberta Carpenter, brother- Scott Hanks, and half sister- Hilda Webb.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Pratt Cemetery in Fayette County. Family and friends are invited to meet directly at the cemetery. A meal and time of fellowship will follow immediately after the graveside services at the Colonial Golf Club in Sandoval.
