Lawrence Daniel "Danny" Veliz

Danny Veliz, 73, of Sandoval, Illinois, passed away on January 12, 2026, at his home. Born on January 3, 1953, in Hillsboro, Illinois, Danny was the son of Lawrence and Charlotte (Ewick) Veliz.

He grew up with a deep love for the outdoors and a natural connection to animals, especially horses. He took great joy in grooming and caring for them, and he cherished every moment spent in their company. He also loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, enjoying the freedom of the open road with his loyal dog, Domingo, often by his side. Time at the lake and days spent with his girlfriend, Doris Barker, were among his happiest moments.

Danny is survived by his siblings, Georgia (Ralph) Bumgarner of Sandoval, IL, and Terry Heflin of Sandoval, IL; his girlfriend, Doris Barker of Sandoval, IL; his step-daughter, Jamie Watson (Rodney) of Salem, IL; his nephew, Bjay Bumgarner of Centralia, IL; and his niece, Kjay Bumgarner of Sandoval, IL.

He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Doreen Donaldson of Zeigler, IL; his parents, Danny Veliz and Charlotte (Ewick) Veliz; and the man who raised him and his siblings, George Heflin of Salem, IL.

As Danny requested, no public services will be held. The family encourages you to remember Danny in your own special way, sharing stories and memories of his life and legacy.
