Judy Ann Bailey, age 80 of Herrin, passed away at 9:26am on Friday, May 8, 2026 at her home in Herrin.
She was born Wednesday, May 1, 1946 in Herrin, a daughter of Margaret Mae (Reams) Land. She married the love of her life, Raymond E. Bailey in Energy on November 05, 1983. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2014.
Judy Bailey, a fiery spirit with a heart of gold, left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
A devoted mother, Judy's selflessness and love shaped the life of her family. She sacrificed tirelessly to care for her children, navigating her son's health challenges with unwavering dedication. Her compassion, strength, and resilience inspired all who witnessed her journey.
Judy's passions were as vibrant as she was. She loved nothing more than spending days fishing, followed by evenings filleting her catch and sharing stories with loved ones. Phone calls and visits with friends, especially Joy, were highlights of her week, often accompanied by games of cards and laughter. A true original, Judy's zest for life was contagious. In her youth, she skated, danced, and played bingo. She crafted homemade peppermint schnapps, adding a dash of fun to gatherings. Her Christian faith was her foundation, and her voice shone in song and worship. Judy's spirit was a gift - fierce, funny, and loving. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and faith will endure.
She is survived by her daughter- Barbara Allsopp of Herrin; two grandchildren- Misty Maze of Herrin and Mariah Maze of Herrin; one great granddaughter- Nevaeh Rose Maze; special cousin raised as a sister- Gay (Gary) Fak of Cape Girardeau; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members on the Wagley and Land sides; and her favorite buddy- Peanut, who she cherished.
She is preceded in death by her husband- Raymond E. Bailey, mother- Margaret Mae Land, son- David Ray Allsopp, and special cousin who was like a sister- Joy Layuna Wagley.
