It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Ann Pearson, age 76, of Royalton. A devoted wife and loving mother, Janet passed away at 11:15pm on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Janet was born in West Frankfort on March 14, 1948, the daughter of Theodore "Ted" and June (Heilman) Herila. She married James "Jim Bob" Pearson in Wickliffe, Kentucky.
Janet spent her life serving others with kindness, compassion, and dedication. Her selfless spirit touched many lives through her work as a dietary technician, where she nourished bodies and souls. In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, Janet also bravely worked as a coal miner, breaking barriers and defying conventions.
Janet will be deeply missed by her husband- James "Jim Bob" Pearson of Royalton; two sons- Steve (Jill) McKinney of Mulkeytown and Darrell (Jo Ellen) McKinney of Benton; daughter- Deana (Gary) Kelly of Du Quoin; grandchildren- Drake McKinney, Kassey (Kodie) Ferketich, Nicholas McKinney, Cole McKinney, Cody (Rachele) McKinney, Kailah Kelly, Jordan Kelly, Steven Brayfield, and Sarah (Kody) Rathert; great grandchildren- Elise McKinney, Eliana McKinney, Angelina Ferketich, Noah Ferketich, Nahla Ferketich, Nya Ferketich, Miloh Ferketich, Barrett Ferketich, Kimber McKinney, Skylar Rathert, Dawson Rathert, Bowen Brayfield, and Caroline Brayfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents- Ted and June Herila, sister- Tedra Mitchell, and brother- Danny "Butch" Herila.
No public services will be held at this time. As you mourn the loss of this extraordinary woman, take comfort in the countless memories, lessons, and love she shared. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift the many people that had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.
