James Edward Cravens, age 73, of Herrin, Illinois, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 at Herrin Hospital.
James was born October 27, 1949 in Herrin, Illinois, a son of Clarence and Jane (Rogers) Cravens. He married Ruth Ann Parker on June 10, 1966 . James loved rabbit hunting and raising AKC registered Beagles. He also enjoyed old cars, fishing and horses. Early in life he worked with sheet metal and later worked at several manufacturing factories.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Ann Cravens of Herrin, IL; four children, Jamey (Joni) Cravens of West Frankfort, IL, Staci (John) Coulter of Herrin, IL, Traci (Tim) Smith of Herrin, IL, and Edward A. "Butch" Cravens of Herrin, IL; five grandchildren, Tamera Coulter, Tristan Coulter, Felicia Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, and Breanna Trammell; two great-grandchildren, Landon Ogden and Logan Coulter; and three sisters, Debbie Herzog, Margaret Guthrie, and Janet Antonaccio. He is preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy L. Cravens; his parents, Clarence and Jane Cravens; and two brothers, Clarencd "Butch" Cravens and Roger Cravens.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023, 10:00 AM at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Keith Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin.
