Helen Wood Obituary Helen June Wood, age 87, of Royalton, passed away peacefully at 9:01 pm on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Herrin Hospital.
She was born Monday, October 25, 1937 in West Frankfort, a daughter of Carl Oscar and Ann (Barclay) Richter.
Helen graduated from Royalton High School. In her early years, she worked at General Dynamics until she decided to start a family. She worked as an EMT for Franklin County Ambulance Service. She also participated in coaching for the Royalton Little League. She loved being around friends and family as well as camping and fishing.
Helen is survived by her five children- Robert (Diane) Sandefur, Bill (Marla) McFarland, Carl (Teri) McFarland, Les (Brenda) Wood, and Carol (Jeff) Matiskie; several grandchildren including Alan, Christine, Emily, Ashley, Cody, Helena, Carly, Dystany, and several others that were always in her heart; and many great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one infant sister, brother- Leroy Richter, sister- Dorothy Mize, daughter-in-law- Dorina Wood, and a granddaughter- Brittany Wood.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Miners Cemetery in Royalton with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather directly at the cemetery.
