Gregory Filetti Obituary

Gregory Scott Filetti, age 67, of Herrin, Illinois, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Herrin Hospital.

He was born Tuesday, December 2, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Ronald Blase and Mary Catherine (Pennington) Filetti.

Greg lived life with joy and curiosity. He loved going to the racetrack, bowling, and heading out with his nephews to shoot pool. He could spend hours fishing, working on puzzles, and in his younger days, roller skating. Summers meant swimming with his great-niece and nephew, and his big brother gave him some of his favorite memories of riding motorcycles. He loved camping, sailing, and watching people work on cars. One of his biggest dreams was to drive a semi-truck.

He was a very loving and caring person who would help anyone in need. Greg loved being around people and just doing things - coffee and Oreos made any day start better. He loved to play, sing, and listen to music. If he wanted something, he found a way to get it. Family called him "The Great Taper" because he loved to take things apart. Putting them back together was trickier, so duct tape became his tool of choice. When Greg was mad, he was mad. He could be stubborn, but more than anything, he was happy and full of love for his family.

Greg had special needs, but they never stopped him. He taught everyone around him about kindness, determination, and unconditional love. His laugh, his hugs, and his big heart touched more lives than anyone could ever count.

He is survived by his mother- Mary Filetti of Herrin; sister- Donna Moppin of Herrin; sister- Carolyn (Larry) Huntley of Herrin; nieces and nephews- Howard Kitamura, Heather Young, Mellow Kitamura, Zachary Moppin, Leah Fowler, Joshua Huntley, Ryan (Katy) Huntley, and Tiffany (Nick) Westfall; great nieces and great nephews- Nicole Westfall, Nathan Westfall, Scarlett Huntley, Ruby Huntley, and Nolan Huntley; several cousins including- Carol Proctor and Sandy Tatham and other extended family members he adored.

He is preceded in death by his father, and his brother- Vincent Rocco Filetti.
