Gary Sullivan Obituary Gary Lynn Sullivan, age 61, of Cobden, Illinois, passed away Friday, August 2, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A good friend, husband, and all around good person, Gary will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Gary was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, a son of Lynn David and Peggy Sue (Spurlock) Sullivan. He married the love of his life, Karen Elizabeth Hand. She survives in Cobden. Prior to his retirement, Gary had worked as a contractor. His legacy will live on through the numerous construction projects he contributed to throughout Southern Illinois.
He is survived by his wife Karen Elizabeth Hand; sister- Martha (Greg) Stark; brother-in-law- Steve Hand; sister-in-law- Diana Hand; aunt- Emily Evansco; uncle- Scott Wright; father-in-law- Jim Hand; niece- Christina Stark; nephew- Josh (Vicki) Stark; nephew- Jack Tohill; niece- Tiffini Parsons; nephew- Michael Hand; nephew- Zachary Hand; several cousins, great nieces, great nephews. and extended family members; and a host of friends he cherished.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lynn David Sullivan and Peggy Sue (Spurlock) Sullivan; mother-in-law- Patricia Hand; sister- Karen Sullivan; brother-James David Sullivan; and brother-in-law- Robert Hand.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024, 11:00 AM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Hoke officiating. Burial will follow at Hinchcliff Cemetery in Cambria. A celebration of life will follow at 1:30pm on Tuesday, August 6th at the Blue Sky Vineyard, a place that held special meaning for Gary.

Gary touched many lives. He had a kind spirit and a helping nature. Gary is remembered for his hard work in the trades profession, selflessness, and care for others. This fund was establish at John A Logan College in Southern Illinois where he recently completed his CDL truck driving training. This scholarship will be used to help others persuing careers in the trades. We are grateful his memory may live on through this scholarship and allow him to continue to support others.
