Emma Cox Obituary Emma Cox, age 81, of Carterville, passed away at 2:03 AM on Friday, May 16, 2025 at the Herrin Hospital.

She was born Saturday, April 15, 1944 in the Phillipines, the daughter of Mariano and Estrella (Calumba) Blaza. She married the love of her life, Charles Arthur Cox, in August of 1970. Together, they shared more than 53 years of marriage until his passing on January 9, 2024.

Emma leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was a devoted family woman, who found joy in gardening, tending to her plants, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As "Mamaw," she held a special place in their hearts, sharing wisdom, love, and laughter. Her family was her greatest treasure. Prior to her retirement, Emma worked diligently at Candy Cane Cleaners in Carterville, earning recognition and pride as a supervisor. Her strong work ethic and dedication inspired those around her. Her Catholic faith guided her through life's joys and challenges.

She is survived by six children; her daughter- Marissa (Brent) Taft of Monument, Colorado, son- Rocky Cox of Carterville, daughter- Brenda (Nathaniel) Cather of Herrin, son- Charles (Joyce) Cox, Jr. of Missouri, son- William (Monica) Cox of Missouri, daughter- Diana Heckwine of Johnston City; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored; and special cousin- Paterna Herrin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Charles Arthur Cox, and five siblings.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
