Edward George, Sr. Obituary

Edward C. George, Sr., a free-spirited and loving father, passed away at 4:20 am on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at his daughter's home, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief and sudden battle with cancer.

Edward was born in Du Quoin on April 30, 1959, the son of Lillie Mae (Klingenberg) Baker.

He was a devoted family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His zest for life was evident in his many adventures, from hitting the basketball court in his younger years to reeling in the big catch while fishing. A past member of the Du Quoin Jaycees, Edward relished the camaraderie and thrill of their many activities, including mud softball. Let his enthusiasm for life be contagious and remember to embrace every moment with joy and passion.  Edward's greatest pride and joy was his family. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and making memories that will be treasured forever. Though his free spirit has flown, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Survivors include his daughter- Crystal Miller of Sesser; daughter- Dana (Brian) Houseworth of Sesser; daughter- Elizabeth George (fiance Terry DeLaval) of Sesser; son- Edward George, Jr. of Sesser; mother of his children- Barbara Arendell of Sesser; nine grandchildren- Tyler Green, Gavin Green, Kendra (Brandon) Accomando, Kirsten (Josh) Houseworth, Dakota (Kyle) Miller, Blake Houseworth, Mason Houseworth, Zoe Shurtz, and Zachary Shurtz; four great grandchildren; three brothers- Ronald (DaShawna) Leggans of Du Quoin, Jimmy (Carrie) Leggans of Du Quoin, and David (Ricci) Leggans of Coulterville; sister- Terry Leggans of Du Quoin; several nieces and nephews; and aunt- Jane Ralston of Du Quoin.

He was preceded in death by his mother, uncle- Freddy George, aunt- Janie George, and his grandparents- Edwin and Lillie Klingenberg.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the Du Quoin United Pentecostal Church (1311 S Washington Street; Du Quoin, IL 62832). Pastor Dan McKinnies will officiate. A dinner will follow the memorial services at the church.
