Deborah Cornell Obituary Deborah Marie Cornell, age 76, of Herrin, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Deborah was born Wednesday, February 2, 1949 in Herrin, a daughter of Robert and Melrose (Jurries) White. She married the love of her life, Gregory Allen Cornell, in Herrin on August 14, 1971. He preceded her in death on July 22, 2024.
A devoted mother, loving grandmother, and cherished friend, her unwavering dedication to family, her infectious enthusiasm, and her generous spirit inspired countless lives. Deborah spent her life nurturing and caring for others. Prior to her retirement, she worked with special education students, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. She adored her family, reveling in the simple joys of life, from shopping trips to Wal-Mart to lazy afternoons with her grandchildren. Her family was her world. Alongside her husband, Deborah enjoyed countless evenings at the American Legion, forging lasting friendships and creating cherished memories. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will continue to inspire us. We will deeply miss her bright smile, her warm hugs, and her unwavering support.
Deborah is survived by two sons- Douglas A. (Stephanie) Cornell of Marble Hill, Missouri and Ryan N. (Jessica Towns) Cornell of Herrin; two grandchildren- Veda Cornell and Ryker Towns; mother-in-law- Dolores Cornell of Herrin, brother-in-law- Curtis (Deanna) Cornell of Perryville, Missouri.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Parker officiating.
Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion.
