Catherine Hartman Obituary

Catherine Hartman Obituary Catherine Mae "Cathy" Hartman, age 63, of Hurst, passed away at 4:01 AM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital after a hard fought, brave battle with cancer.

She was born Thursday, September 14, 1961 in East St. Louis, Illinois, a daughter of Shelby Carolyn (Holland) and Robert Allen Sloat, Sr.

Cat was a person who cherished her alone time, loved watching Judge Judy, and adored her dog, Gus. While she may have come across as blunt or set in her ways, those who knew her understood that beneath her tough exterior lay a heart of gold. She was fiercely loyal to her family and loved animals. Once you broke through her reserve, Cathy was a funny, loving, and outspoken person who told it like it was. She was a fighter in every sense of the word, and her strength will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter- Kelly Hartman of Hurst; two granddaughters- Breeanna (Tyler Shelton) Parini of Hurst and Libby (Alex Stewart) Elders of Herrin; three great grandchildren- Penelope, Elijah, Abel and one on the way; siblings- Melodie (Kevin Payne) Hartman of Hurst, brother- Robert Allen (Pearl Clutts) Sloat, Jr. of Herrin, Georgie Sloat of Centralia, Brandy Fann of Centralia, Billie Joe Sloat of Centralia, and Cody (Kelli) Sloat of Centralia; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
