Carolyn Joan Burton

Carolyn Joan Burton, "Jody", passed away on Wednesday, June 17th, 2026 in Herrin, Illinois. Born on December 22nd, 1942, to Irene (Jones) and Carl Haber, Jr. Jody lived a life filled with love, creativity, and devotion to those she cherished most.

On September 3, 1966, she married Gerald W. "Jerry" Burton, beginning a marriage that would be a cornerstone of her life. Together they built a family that remained her greatest source of pride and joy.

Jody is survived by her son, Thomas Burton of Pittsburg, Illinois; her daughter, Danielle Burton of Cambria, Illinois. and her beloved granddaughter, Brenna Burton of Herrin, IL. She is survived by her siblings, Dale Haber and Lynn Haber, both of Beardstown, IL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Bret Haber of Wisconsin.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Burton; her parents; and her brothers, Bob and James.

Throughout her life Jody worked a variety of occupations, including as a meter maid, waitress, baker, Williamson County Deputy, and manager of a floral shop. While she excelled in many roles, her favorite occupation was being a mother to Tommy and Sis.

A woman of many talents and interests, Jody was exceptionally artistic and was known as an expert marks-woman. She possessed a remarkable gift for thoughtfulness, always finding ways to show love and kindness to her family and many friends. Her warm heart and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Jody loved music, animals, coffee, movies, and donuts. Above all else, she loved her family. She was especially proud of her granddaughter, Breanna, and the beautiful woman she became. One of her greatest joys was hearing the cherished title of "Mee Maw."

A faithful believer in Christ, Joan found strength and comfort in her faith throughout her life. Her family is comforted by the knowledge that she has been welcomed into His loving arms.

Joan's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Wednesday, June 24th, 2026 from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Committal and Burial will follow at 2 P.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion with Rev. Greg Parker officiating.
