Brittany Anne Church-Monk, age 37, of Granite City, Illinois, formerly of Du Quoin, departed this life on October 24, 2024 at her residence. She was born December 1, 1986, in Killeen, Texas, and raised by mother and father, Evelyn and Richard Hess. She attended Du Quoin High School where she excelled in choir and athletics, softball and basketball. She worked in the manufacturing industry, primarily as a machine operator. She professed her faith in The Lord Our God throughout her life. She had an avid love of music and had a creative soul. She loved thrifting, picking, cooking, singing and dancing, family cookouts, spending time with friends and mostly spending time with her family. Brittany never met a stranger, all that knew her loved her. She could command a room with her affectionate smile. While Brittany will be sadly missed, she will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. She will be fondly remembered by all her acts of kindness, compassion, and authenticity.
Survivors include her parents- Evelyn and Richard Hess of Du Quoin; paternal father- Michael Monk of North Carolina; five children- Jaelyn and A'Lilyanna of Du Quoin, Cameron, MacKinley, and Mariah of Herrin; siblings- Kristen (Scott), Cadey (Bren), Ashley (Ricquel), Kody (Andrea), and Chloe (Braxton); nieces and nephews- Tanner, Tucker, Adelynne, Adlee, and Adler; and her grandmother- Anna F. Davis of Missouri.
Brittany was preceded in death by Retired Lt. Colonel Donald and Carol Church of New Port Richey, Florida, Majorie Holverson of Coppers Cove, Texas, David D. Hess Senior of Valier, and Opal Davis of Du Quoin.
A private family service was provided by Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home. A public Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 2:00pm at the Du Quoin Second Baptist Church, located at 219 South Illinois Avenue in Du Quoin.
