Brenda Johnson Obituary Brenda Sue Johnson, age 78, of Herrin, passed away at 9:25am on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born October 8, 1946 in Alton, Illinois, a daughter of George and Jeanie Elaine (Peffer) Mitchell. She married the love of her life, Lester "Bud" Lavern Johnson on August 17, 1962 in Herrin. Together, they share more than 54 years of marriage, until his passing on September 2, 2016.
Brenda spent her life spreading joy and love to all those around her. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and she found strength and community within the Family Church of God in Zeigler. She had a passion for music, often lifting spirits with her beautiful voice. Beyond her faith and music, Brenda cherished her furry companions, affectionately know as her "fur babies". They brought immense joy and comfort to her life. Brenda was an avid Bingo player, who looked forward to gathering with friends at the Herrin VFW for bingo nights, which were always filled with laughter. Brenda will be deeply missed by her family, church community, and friends.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care and compassion provided by Hospice of Southern Illinois.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Johnson; daughter, Cristina Winstead; bonus daughter, Kelly Black; grandchildren, Shandale Johnson, Megan (Jared) Diuguid, Chad Johnson, Noah Johnson; great grandchildren, Payton Johnson, Ayden Johnson, Ely Johnson, Rickey Johnson, Camron Diuguid, Cooper Diuguid, Brooks Johnson; and brother, Darrell (Mary Lou) Mitchell.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lester "Bud" Lavern Johnson, son- Ed Johnson, and brother, Mark Mitchell.
Family and friends may gather from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM for a time of visitation on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Brenda's funeral care fund at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, to help the family offset her final expenses.
