Billy Gene "Tex" White, age 67 of Johnston City, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 1, 2026 at his home in Johnston City.
He was born Tuesday, December 2, 1958 in Denver, Colorado, a son of Bill and Wilma Jean (Russell) White.
A true original and a legend among friends and family. Tex lived life with a deck of cards in his hand and a smile on his face. He was a master of the pool table, a shark at the poker game, and a connoisseur of fine gambling. His love for the game was only matched by his love for his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him boundless joy. His friends from the pool hall and poker table were his partners in crime, sharing laughs, stories, and countless memories.
A die-hard Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs fan, Tex's spirit was as big as his bets. He fueled his adventures with Diet Dr Pepper and oatmeal creme pies, and his laughter was contagious. When his health allowed, he enjoyed golfing, but his true passion was always the thrill of the game. Tex was a jokester and a storyteller, always ready with a joke to brighten the day. His passing leaves a hole in our lives, but his legacy lives on in the memories we'll cherish forever.
He is survived by his three children- Marynell Smith of Herrin, Austin (Katelyn Bandera) White of Thompsonville, and Lorena White of Macedonia; nine grandchildren- Kirstyn, Ethan, Avahlyn, Lyllian, Roy, Olyver, Harrison, Eleanor, and Noah; brother- Jesse Conaway of Energy; special friend- Shannon Meneese of West Frankfort; a host of extended family members and friends including- Linda Johnson, Missy Rendleman, Lynn Ahls, Mandy Peyton and Kim Curry.
He is preceded in death by his parents- Bill and Wilma Jean White, his grandparents- Pauline and Kenneth Russell, and his beloved dog- Nina Marie.
As Tex requested, no public services will be held at this time. Celebration of life services will be set for a later date. The family encourages you to remember Tex in your own special way, sharing stories and memories of his life and legacy.
