Bess Matlock Obituary Bess Viola Matlock, age 99, of Herrin, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at her granddaughter's home in Herrin.
She was born Saturday, May 23, 1925 in Manila, Arkansas, a daughter of Herschel and Vada (Godwin) Brimhall. She married Horace Lovell and he preceded her in death. She later married Charles Matlock. He also preceded her in death.
Bess may have been just shy of her 100th birthday, but her legacy will live on for generations to come. Born in a different era, Bess was raised with strong values and a steadfast work ethic. She dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse, providing comfort, compassion, and kindness to countless patients and families. Her selflessness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to serving others inspired everyone around her. She may have lived through many changes and challenges, but her spirit remained strong, her heart remained full of love, and her legacy will continue to inspire us all.
She is survived by her sister- Billie Wilson of North Carolina; several loving grandchildren including her caregiver- Robin Greeney of Herrin; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
She is preceded in death by both her husband, three sons- Larry Curtright, Ronnie Curtright, Garry Curtright, and two brothers- Jim Brimhall and Herschel "Son" Brimhall.
