Bernice Marcinkowski, 90, of Herrin, IL passed away on October 18, 2024.
Born in Royalton, IL, she has been a lifelong area resident of Southern Illinois. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. She was devoted to her family and church. Bernice was an active member of the Daughters of Isabella Society where she "worked" bingo every Friday night for over 40 years. The organization was instrumental in providing funds for the new Catholic school in Herrin and many other charitable causes.
Bernice retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Marion after 25 years of service.
Daughter of the late Walter and Stella (Bolinski) Bogdajewicz and devoted wife of the late Henry Marcinkowski, Bernice is also pre-deceased by her siblings Walter, Felix, Clem, Joseph and Loretta Lukuc. Surviving sisters are Carolyn Bagwell and Sheila Berner.
She is survived by her loving children; Chris of Little Rock, AR; Carl and his wife Jayne of Yardley, PA; and John and his wife Tammy of Southport, NC. Her grandchildren; David and his wife, Lauren; Thomas and his wife, Emily; Elizabeth and her husband Kyle; and Steven Marcinkowski. The family welcomed her three great-grandchildren; Jace, Jayme and Claire Marcinkowski who brought much joy to her. Bernice also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
The Rite of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, in Herrin with Father Mark D. Reyling officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday in the church gathering space. Interment will follow in San Carlo Catholic Cemetery, Herrin, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel New School Fund. Envelopes will be available and accepted at the service or by mailing to OLMC, 316 W. Monroe Street, Herrin, IL. 62948.
