Bennie Ray Chapman, age 82, of Pinckneyville, passed away peacefully at 11:20 pm on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Reflections Memory Care Center in Carterville.
Bennie was born September 19, 1942, in Pinckneyville, the son of James Craig and Kathryn (Hawkins) Chapman. He was first married to Jeanne Bynum and to this union were born two sons, Benjamin Gregory and Michael Lex. He later married Debra Baker Dinkins and to this union were born two children, Joseph Craig and Lauren (Chapman) Brickner.
Bennie was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 520 since 1963. An avid coon hunter who belonged to several coon clubs, Bennie always had several coon dogs that he hunted with.
Bennie is survived by three children- Michael, Joseph, and Lauren; one step-son- Chad Dinkins; three grandchildren- Chase Chapman, Sylas Brickner, and Jolee Brickner; one step-grandchild- Charlie Dinkins; two sisters- Connie Moore of Burleson, Texas and Sally Dolling of Chicago; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest son- Greg, one sister, and four brothers.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, located at 4628 IL 127 in Pinckneyville.
Memorial services will follow on Friday, February 7, 2025, 11:00 AM at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Pinckneyville with Pastor Rob Mathis officiating.
A funeral meal will follow the services at the church, providing an opportunity for fellowship and sharing fond memories of Bennie.
