Barbara Meneese Obituary

Barbara Meneese Obituary Barbara Kay Meneese, age 68, of Herrin, passed away at 2:18pm on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.

Barbara was born Monday, December 31, 1956 in Creal Springs, Illinois, a daughter of Dollivar Jame Phillips and Lillian Marie (Malcom) Craig. She married the love of her life, Harold Lavern Meneese in Herrin on November 22, 1972. Together, they shared fifty years of marriage and precious memories. Harold preceded her in death on December 26, 2022.

Barbara, a devoted mother and grandmother, left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew her. Her greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. Whether they were hanging out at home, going on adventures, or cheering them on at softball games, she was always there with a loving presence and a watchful eye – especially when it came to protecting her car from stray balls! Fishing was another passion she shared with her loved ones, often taking them on trips to Tennessee, where she marveled at the natural beauty and even spotted a bear in the wild. These experiences brought her immense joy and created lasting memories for her family. Her work ethic was impressive, with a morning routine that included delivering papers and stocking stands for the Southern Illinoisan, followed by evenings working at Lunker Lure. She took pride in her work and was dedicated to her responsibilities. In her downtime, she enjoyed simple pleasures like sipping her morning coffee, crocheting, and grabbing a Diet Coke from the gas station. These quiet moments brought her comfort and peace. Barbara had a personality that was all her own. She spoke her mind and lived life on her own terms, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched. Her love, spirit, and legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who knew her.

She is survived by three children- Jason L. Meneese of Pulleys Mill, Samantha K. (Chad) Craig of Herrin, and Randy L. (Stacy) Meneese of Johnston City; five grandchildren- Connor Craig, LilyAnn Craig, Jacob Meneese, Natalie Meneese, and William Meneese; sister- Geraldine (Jerry) Winters of Carrier Mills; and sister-in-law- Loretta (Carl) Kilmen of Carbondale.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter- Angela Meneese, four sisters- Geneva, Carol, Priscilla and Emma, and four brothers- Deon, Harold, Gilbert, and Charles.
