Amy Hickam Obituary

Amy Lynn Hickam, age 48, of Jacob, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025 at her home.

She was born Saturday, May 22, 1976 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, a daughter of Paul William and Darla Elaine (Schaefer) Smith.

Amy was a free spirit, living life with a heart full of love and a soul full of wonder. She had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and the world around her. Native American culture and the majesty of wolves held a special place in her heart. The color blue brought her joy and reminded her of life's simple pleasures. Arrowhead hunting was a favorite pastime, connecting her with the earth and its history. Above all, Amy loved spending time with her grandchildren, sharing her wisdom, and showering them with love. Her selflessness and kindness inspired those around her, always putting others before herself. Her legacy will live on through the memories she created with her loved ones and the countless lives she touched. Her spirit will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her mother- Darla Elaine Smith of Metropolis; daughter- Summer (Justin) Freund of Du Quoin; son- Colt Carter of Murphysboro; son- Dalton Carter of Du Quoin; grandchildren- Shianna Freund, Brantley Freund, and Axel Carter; sister- Penny Smith of Carbondale; brother- Paul Smith, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father- Paul William Smith and her grandson- Hunter Freund.

Celebration of life services are pending and will be updated here as they become available. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to help cover the unexpected final expenses.
